Five cities of Japan in seven days

water cups

Its been a crazy few weeks on the road travelling again and I am just settling into Hong Kong for a few days after having finished travelling through 5 cities in Japan over 7 days.  Looking back on my photos I realised that I have managed to see a little bit of Tokyo, Nara, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka.  I can't say I saw a lot of each of these cities, but I really did take a lot of photos while I was there.  This time I was travelling with the trusty old Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the Panasonic GH4.  I find that these cameras are both grat cameras to carry around and I love having the 4k video capabilities on the Panasonic GH4 for those times when I do need video.  I most commonly used the Olympus 12mm, Panasonic Leica Nocticron 42.5mm and Voigtlander 17.5mm lenses while travelling and they remain perhaps my most used lenses while travelling.  Even though the Voigtlander lens is as heavy as a small brick - its picture quality is exceptional and I do find the images taken with this lens to be very sharp (even when I am zone focusing).  I did use the Olympus 17mm lens a little as well - especially when I wanted autofocus.  The following images are a small selection that sums up some of what I saw in each of the cities I passed through.  I probably have enough photos to do several posts on Japan but for now I have to focus on editing and processing my images from Hong Kong, Vietnam and Malaysia.  I hope you enjoy - but remember the photos are taken from my perspective and what I saw so please don't be too critical but some constructive feedback is always great.

This is a very strong set of images, my friend. I especially like how you capture interaction between your subjects and their environment, sometimes with a great deal of wit.
